Ex-minister Shahid, ex-mayor Atiqul, among four placed on remand

A Dhaka court today placed former agriculture minister Abdus Shahid, former Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam, Supreme Court lawyer Momtaz Uddin Ahmad Mehedi and former additional secretary Mohammad Amjad Hossain Khan on different terms of remand in connection with separate cases.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury passed the orders after the four were produced before the court with different terms of remand prayer, court staffers said.
Shahid and Amjad were each placed on a three-day remand in two separate cases with Uttara West Police Station under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act after they were produced before the court with a seven-day remand prayer each.
Atiqul Islam was placed on a five-day remand in a case filed with Uttara East Police Station over the death of a man named Bokul Mia after he was placed before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
Meanwhile, Momtaz, former general secretary of Dhaka Bar Association, was placed on a three-day remand in a case filed over the death of a bus driver, Alamgir Hossain, in Dhaka’s Uttara area on August 5 during the mass uprising.
The lawyer was produced before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.
On October 6, Aleya, 50, mother of the victim Alamgir Hossain, filed a murder case with Uttara West Police Station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 287 others.
